LiDAR is currently only available in iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and iPad Pro, but it is expected to become more popular in the future. A report from Digitimes pointed out that Apple intends to expand the application of LiDAR, and plans to equip the entire iPhone 13 line with LiDAR sensors this year, which means that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will also have LiDAR configurations.
LiDAR can measure the distance to surrounding objects indoors and outdoors, up to 5 meters, and can detect to the photon level, and run at nanosecond speed. The depth points measured by the LiDAR sensor, as well as the data of the two cameras and the motion sensor, are enhanced by computer vision algorithms, so as to master clearer and more detailed scenes and present a new level of AR experience.
In addition, it is reported that Apple and Sony have signed a three-year contract to ensure that LiDAR sensors will be used at least until 2023.
